Adam Devine’s belief: ‘Superhero movies have destroyed comedies’

Adam Devine has some strong opinions about why there seems to be a lack of funny movies in theaters these days. In an interview on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Devine expressed his theory that Marvel movies are to blame for this trend. According to Devine, when you watch comedies nowadays, they often lack the humor and jokes that used to be a trademark of the genre. He believes that this is because superhero movies have set the bar so high in terms of production value, that people are more willing to spend their money on those films instead. This has led to a decline in the number of comedy films being released each year. Devine mentioned that in the past, there used to be around 45 to 46 comedy films released annually. However, in recent years, that number has dropped to about 6 or 7. Despite his frustrations with the state of movie comedies, Devine expressed his gratitude for being able to fully embrace comedy in his latest film, The Out-Laws. In the film, he plays a likable bank manager who suspects his future in-laws are criminals. The Out-Laws is now available for streaming on Netflix.
