Remember those filmmakers who claimed they never thought about making a sequel when they created the first movie in a franchise? Well, Danny and Michael Philippou, the Aussie directors behind the summer horror hit Talk to Me, are definitely not like that. In an interview with EW back in May, Danny confessed that he and his twin brother would be thrilled to create a follow-up to their low-budget film about a severed hand with possession powers. They had even planted some seeds for a second installment in Talk to Me. “Yeah, yeah. We’d love to,” remarked the director and co-writer of the movie. “We had stuff that we planted that in the first film [and] would love the opportunity to do a sequel. It would be so exciting. The idea of having my own horror franchise — how awesome.” And now, that dream has come true. A24, the distributors of Talk to Me, announced on Tuesday that they are teaming up again with the Philippou brothers to create a sequel. This news comes after the recent revelation that the brothers have already filmed a prequel to Talk to Me, which focuses on a character named Duckett, briefly introduced in the original film. “We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that,” mentioned Danny Philippou in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Talk to Me has raked in $22 million at the US box office since its release on July 28.
