Identifying the Surprising Artist Behind the Theme Song of Don Cheadle’s Failed Fresh Prince Spin-off

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Don Cheadle reflected on his canceled Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spin-off project called In the House. Not only did he star in the show, but he also had a hand in the theme song. Cheadle, who had a strong background in jazz music and once aspired to be a musician, wrote the song’s introduction. “I was still involved in the music scene at that time, so I wanted to take a shot at the theme song,” Cheadle shared. He collaborated with his friend Kenny Finch on the song, though it’s uncertain if it would have been used in the series. Cheadle revealed that he sang the theme song and mentioned that it can still be found online. Despite shooting a pilot episode, In the House never made it past that stage. The spin-off would have followed Cheadle’s character, Ice Tray, who appeared as a guest on a memorable episode of Fresh Prince. Tray developed a relationship with Will’s cousin, Hilary, causing a stir among other family members. The producers were initially interested in creating a spin-off centered around Cheadle’s character, but ultimately the show wasn’t picked up. Interestingly, the title In the House was later used for a separate sitcom in 1995 starring LL Cool J, which had a successful five-season run.
