Jodie Sweetin, the well-known actress, expressed her dissatisfaction with the news that one of her upcoming films, Craft Me a Romance, had been sold to Candace Cameron Bure’s Great American Family network without her knowledge. In a statement to PEOPLE, Sweetin revealed her surprise at learning about the sale through the press and emphasized that actors often have little control over which network buys their projects. Despite her disappointment, Sweetin made a commitment to support the LGBTQ+ community by donating any money earned from the sale to LGBTQ+ organizations.
Craft Me a Romance, which also features Brent Bailey, Maxwell Caulfield, and Julie Brown, is set to premiere on Great American Family on September 16. The film tells the story of a woman who owns an arts and crafts store and faces a difficult choice when the owner of a rival store demands that she sell her business or face its closure.
When asked for a comment about the film’s sale, Great American Family did not respond immediately to EW’s request. Candace Cameron Bure, who joined the network in an executive position last year, has previously caused controversy by stating that GAF would prioritize “traditional marriage” in its programming, sparking criticism from various celebrities including Hilarie Burton, Holly Robinson Peete, and Maren Morris. Sweetin, who identifies as an outspoken ally for the LGBTQ+ community and supports the Black Lives Matter movement, spoke out about the importance of using one’s platform to advocate for equality and love for all.
